Introduction

The main purpose of this archive website is to introduce the SJSU graphic design department experience visually through a website. My teammates and I got together to plan and design a website that properly represents the graphic design department that the original department website struggled to portray.

Objective

  • Conceptualize a graphic design department archive website that portrays the SJSU graphic design student experience through branding and content.

  • Create the information architecture of the website

  • Design a live working website using Webflow

  • Design the Community section of the website

Research

In order to create the information architecture of the website. We studied the SJSU Graphic Design Department website to categorize the contents the site offers in an efficient way.

Pain Points

  • The site seems too rigid and does not portray the graphic design department well

  • The SJSU branding and structure are the same across all departments which can cause confusion for users

  • Users may struggle with navigating the website because there are three different navigation bars

Design System (2021)

This was the original design system before it was updated this year by the 2022 BFA graduates. The 2021 website was inspired by the branding of the SJSU Design Department Book.

Current Designs

The color palette of the website has changed, but the structure of the community section and its contents are essentially the same.

Designing for the SJSU graphic design archive website was a rewarding experience. Learning Webflow for this project was challenging, but I was able to grasp the basics and successfully design the community section of the website. I am glad that I was able to work with two other designers who were both talented and helpful. Despite some changes to the website compared to last year, I am still grateful that the website is live and running!
